About Benno Bauer

Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist

Benno Bauer Jr. grew up in Kerrville, a small town in Texas and graduated from Texas Lutheran University with a degree in accounting. He became an apartment developer in Houston with more than 4,000 apartment units and some high-end homes.

When God called him into ministry, Benno became a staff pastor/counselor at one of the biggest churches in America under Dr. Ed Young — Second Baptist Church in Houston. He also became a Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist (CSAT — ASAT) through the International Institute for Trauma & Addiction Professionals (IITAP) under Dr. Patrick Carnes, the premier expert on the issues of sexual compulsivity/addiction, after recognizing how pervasive and devastating sex addiction had become to men in the Houston area and beyond. This was an opportunity to begin an incredible and much-needed ministry. He is also a Certified Anger Resolution Therapist (CART).

An incredible 28,432 men took part in his Battle Lines group from May 2004 to July 1, 2019, and Benno counseled over 19,000 sessions of approximately 30,000-plus people (men and couples). It has been his honor to help sex-addicted souls take back their lives, restore marriages, mend families, and deeply connect with God.

Benno’s personal interests have to do with God’s green earth. “I find relaxation and blessings in the great outdoors, such as authentic cattle drives, hunting, fishing, river rafting, etc. Adventures in the wild include places like the Yukon, Alaska, British Columbia, Mexico, several states, and Texas,” he notes.

He also loves photography and has created many tabletop photo albums for his family. He loves music of all genres, from classical to Oldie Goldies of the Fifties and Sixties, and frequently tunes into his favorite artist, Willie Nelson, with a cigar while relaxing on his patio!

Benno, an avid reader, enjoys many books, from the Bible and biographies to history, fiction, and non-fiction. His greatest hope is that those in the clutches of sex addiction find help and healing through this book.

“I have experienced life in the utmost of pain and the highest of joys; there is not much I have not experienced via physical or experiential pain,” Benno adds. “I am blessed to be married to Jan for thirty-six years and have two living children (an adult daughter and an adult son).”
