To many, healing sex addiction is a Herculean journey. No one has ever claimed that it’s easy. In fact, it’s an excruciating battle of the mind, body, and soul.
Christians, too, are impacted by this addiction. But the difference between addiction in the secular world versus addiction in the faith-based world is night and day. Christians have a not-so-secret weapon — the Lord God, Almighty.
Take King David of the Old Testament, who was first introduced to us as a boy facing a giant. Grown men fled in terror as this giant, Goliath, mocked and challenged them. No one could match Goliath’s power. No one, it seemed, had the courage to even try.
Except for young David. Just like you, he had a secret weapon.
What’s that? you might ask.
Well, this brave kid, facing the worst fate, picked up a rock and placed it in his slingshot. He had faith. Then, he aimed and let the rock fly squarely into the giant’s forehead. He trusted God’s outcome.
This was a child beloved by God. We are all children beloved by God. Just as David’s enemy fell, so can yours. And with faith and by “doing the hard work,” you can trust the outcome — victory.
Healing Sex Addiction Versus The Enemy
Your struggle is against an insidious enemy — sex addiction — and the chaos it has unleashed in your life. Very likely, it has adversely affected your family, your relationships, your work, your finances, and your self-worth. After all, it’s humbling to admit you have a problem bigger than yourself.
But…
You, too, have a rock and a slingshot. Your rock is Jesus, the foundation upon which all good things are built. And your slingshot is the Word of God. Spending time — and I mean A LOT of time — in prayer can radically change things.
You also have an army of support, meaning groups you can join and professional counseling. In a previous blog post, I mentioned finding two “accountability men” who are willing to partner with you and be on call when the enemy threatens you. Yes, you can reach out when temptation rears its ugly head and tries to ruin your progress. And yes, these men will hold your feet to the fire.
